TOOLBOX SOCIAL PROGRAMME - SIGNING STORIES

Join our Thursday morning storytelling group, bringing popular stories, books, folk tales and characters to life through simple Makaton signs and symbols! This is an ideal session for those who enjoy sensory play, music, books and storytelling. Please note that this is not a taught Makaton class and no previous signing experience is necessary. 

We offer participants a safe space to build skills and grow lasting friendships. All activities are suitable for a multitude of needs and are delivered by our qualified Drama Practitioner and trained Makaton enthusiast!

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Sessions are held in a large community room at Oaken Grove Community Centre in Haxby. This well ventilated space is fully accessible for wheelchairs and walkers. You will find a changing place and an accessible toilet on site, you will also find indoor and outdoor breakout spaces which can be used to relax and decompress. The building also hosts Explore library and a popular community café. The building has a large, free car park to the front and is also on major bus routes from York city centre and surrounding villages.

Programme Details

Signing Stories

  • Days: Thursdays
  • Time: 9:30am – 10.15am
  • Free Classes: All classes upto the Easter break are free! (Between the 27th of February and 3rd April 2025)
  • Paid For Classes: From 24th of April, classes are £3 per person. From September, classes are £5 per person
  • Where: Oaken Grove Community Centre, Reid Park, Oaken Grove, Haxby, York, YO32 3QW
